Fundraising with Meredith Riddle Chastang

Meredith Riddle Chastang

My grandmother, Nonnie, was the smartest person I have ever known. She was valedictorian of her high school class, graduated from college and never lost a game of bridge, dominoes or gin. Nonnie’s dementia became noticeable about seven years ago, and thus began my relationship with this disease. Shortly after the diagnosis, I co-founded a young professional’s powder puff football fundraiser called Blondes vs. Brunettes (BvB) benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association’s Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter. It has now raised over $2 million dollars and spread to dozens of Alzheimer’s Associations nationwide. But, most importantly, it has brought awareness of this seemingly “old” disease to a “younger” audience. I think Coach would be proud. I know Nonnie was.

Nonnie passed away in May 2013. And, although my grandmother’s body outlived her mind, her incredibly strong character and amazing legacy continue to fuel my fight to find a cure.

I am honored to be on the DKR Legacy Council and thank you for your support.
